It has tiny, delicate, pale blue to white flowers that bloom year round, peaking between December-July, and ovate leaves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's name translates to the \u003cem\u003eSkirt of Hiʻiaka\u003c\/em\u003e.  Hiʻiaka (Hiʻiakaikapoliopele) is the younger sister of the fire goddess Pele.  The moʻolelo goes, Hiʻiaka was waiting on the beach for Pele to finish surfing.
